This is really good news for EVERYONE.
"SEATTLE - A 27-year-old man described as one of the world's most prolific spammers was arrested Wednesday, and federal authorities said computer users across the Web could notice a decrease in the amount of junk e-mail."
Full Story.

Excellant News! I hope he gets the maximum sentence possible. He was one of the top 10; now on to the rest of them.
It is good to read that Microsoft is active in curtailing spam.

The problem needs one good prison sentence handed down.

I'd guess this news is especially good to someone trying to run a board like this. I can't image the headache it must be trying to keep these idiots out.
Let's hope they can gather-up more!

Board spammers are bad enough and quite a job to keep the forums "clean". Email spammers are clogging up ISP's and costing an absolute fortune in bandwidth, and AGGRAVATION!

The quote below is a Spam e-mail I received this morning. I do not understand the motive behind this gibberish, or why anybody would bother sending it. Further there was no link to any web site, promoting anything, and the message was sent from a forwarding service so one can not even send a response to the e-mail. It is a big mystery to me, and most frustrating.

I removed the copy from your post above. It is all gibberish but has meaning for spam bot crawlers - it is simply a list of search terms and words that is seeded all over the world. Then, the REAL spammer crawler bot is let loose to find these "seedings" - and then "the games begin".

Partially understood.
I understand why the quote was removed. I hope my post did not cause problems here. I had not thought of that angle when I posted it.
I do not understand how it helps the spammers by Spam-mailing such junk.
I simply hate Spam, Spammers, junk mail, and Bots.
EDITED TO ADD:
Hate is a strong word, but is a mild form of my true opinion on this topic.

That makes sense. Watermelonxx as an email address was chosen because my old email address was getting so much spam that I couldn't stand opening the inbox. I'd get 20 or more spam emails a day. I needed to keep the address because there were friends who I couldn't reach who could only write to me at that address, so every so often I would go in, look around, send most everything to aol's "report spam" file. Some emails I simply deleted. I never answered any spam, never asked for my address to be removed from their list.
Nowadays, I can go more than a week without receiving any spam. Ignoring and immediately deleting the offending emails seems to work best.

I get only one type of spam - a picture with words and phone number, changes sender all the time. Used to be 20 a day but I stoped opening them and deleting them, it has reduced to about 5 a day. My new email address does not get any, yet.

Is there a hell for spammers? What devices of torture would you implement?
Cutting off all communication except spam, -but then these people are probably clever enough to communicate in code .
I don't know how many times I would have liked to write a "bot" that would seek out spammers and infect their computers with a spammer dedicated virus sort of a virtual pit bull terrier!
In the days before I had my own pc and had to use public pc's, therefore only checking my e-mail occasionally. I remember spending half an hour just deleting spam!
