Well done South Africa; a well deserved second four years as World Champions.
Matfield can now rightly claim to be the best second row in the world, the defence was only breached seriously once, Percy's kicking is perfection and Steyn's amazing. Pity that Habana didn't see anything of the ball until he decided to try and play scrum half.
Not sure which game Lighthouse was watching, of course, but, sad as it may be, I suppose that you could say that, at least, we had the ball to kick; or could it have been that you just kicked it to us!
Also not too bad a swan song for many of the "older" English players with just the hint of a more youthful glimmer of light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. Let's hope that your ZA Rugby Union now gets it right with White's successor and manages to get the sort of support given to Mbeki when he was clearly so desperate to get the cup in his hands - who did he play for?
All in all a great RWC and a great advert for our game; can't wait until the next time!

This outfit may show some re-runs of the semi final and the Final :-

Lekker Boks!
Well done indeed.
IMHO England did exceedingly well to get to the final and even performed beyond expectations there. After all, they had a really poor start and cannot be said to be in form.
The Boks got the result they deserved. Great team. What more can man say but well done!

Peter and I would support any campaign to show Rugby on US TV! I think it's Peter's favorite spectator sport!
Would also LOVE to be able to watch Australia skiff races on US TV. And French catamaran races.
Alas, Americans who haven't traveled don't know what they are missing, otherwise it would already be on TV here.

Just think big instead. Imagine if the US started playing rugby big time then it would be on tv. But, even more important, it would encourage lots of other countries to join in the game too.
The game is expanding with countries like Argentina (doing very well), Italy (trying hard) and the Netherlands (do they have space for rugby fields?) coming on-line. It is a great game and it is getting bigger.
Here in Sweden it has a small but devout following, well, more small than devout, but we are slowly geting there.
Cheers // Stephen

Comprehensive information about the US rugby scene can be found at www.usarugby.org/default.asp, the governing body of American Rugby Union. Not sure exactly what contact with this august body might achieve but I'm sure that it'd love to hear of your support in what must be one of its own main endeavours.
If you really want to start at the top - or bottom depending on the way you think trees grow - www.irb.com is the world's sometimes unloved and often unloving governing body.
If you really want to see what it's all about, find a local club with a good junior section and go to see the kids play. It's where all the heroes of the RWC probably began their playing careers and, if its anything like my own club, Sunday mornings alone are enough to give you hope for mankind!
I guess that it's now back to the subject of sailing - until, of course, the Six Nations!

Let's hope RU rediscovers the need to score tries before the Six Nations kicks off. I enjoyed the World Cup, but the new reliance on 'soft' points denies spectators of the true, tough spectacle which has always been the hallmark of the game. And, given the numbers of RL players who have made the switch, that surprises me.
Good result all the same
Cheers.
David.
