Default Tropical cruising

Why do we prefer to sail in the tropics? I am spoiled coming from Darwin in northern Oz. Yesterday I went for a squirt in a Yamaha 24' on lake Biwa in central Japan. Conclusion....I love japanese beer, japanese people, japanese food...But, I am a child of the sun. Biwako was bloody C-O-L-D.

Coo-eee Cobbers, I find that the Tropics get TOO HOT & SWEATY after awhile. Looking forward to cruising in cooler climes soon. Loved Japanese beer, but having sampled 1 or 2 in every country I have visited I have not found a bad beer yet. But I promise that I will keep trying to find one. Hopefully we can share a cold beer somewhere sometime.

Regards,

Stephen

Here, on Lake Okanagan , British Columbia we sail year round .There were some days when we made a snow man on the bow .The winds are stronger and more consistent in the winter .I'm a skier too , and if you are thinking about cold, go skiing in January ,blowing snow ,fog and cold. So , the day on the sailboat in January compare to skiing in January, is almost like being in the tropics

Worm winds

I spend what ever spare time I have sailing round the Seychelles Islands. Warm and never a cyclone in my area but the sea can get a bit choppy. But as you say lots of sunshine and cold beer. What more could a boy want. Forget the NorthSea and crossing the Channel thats for.....(others?) In fact do people really do that sort of stuff like go out in the cold just to get cold and damp and freeze their butts off? (or is it a conspiracy of the yachting mags to fill up their pages? Either way crazy. Must go back for a warm swim.

I am going back to Japan in March to see the cherry blossom. Autumn was beautiful and they tell me Cherry Blossom time (AKA: BBQ pork and sake week) is magnificent. I have agreed to go dinghy sailing whilst there...temperature this morning at 9.00 was 3 degrees. I must be NUTS!!!!
