Indian Ocean Passage To The West, From Darwin

Hello everybody!

I would like to travel around the world. And jumping between continent is more enjoyable, cheaper and fun on the bout.

I am planing my next continent to be Africa, so than I can get some how to Europe (cycling), and get to Caribbean sea from there. (Canary Islands/October)

The question I have to you friends is:

I was thinking that I mait get a yacht going to South Africa form Northen Therytory Australia (Darwin) around August/September this year.

Please tell me if I'm rite?

If you have any information's about times/directions/bouts/ ect. I would be more than happy to hire about that. If you know somebody who mait know something I would be gratefully for some information.

For this of you who don't know me. I may say that have some offshore experience, And around 4000 mils under the kil. It is not much but always something.

I will be in Australia from 17 July to 13 October, I am intending to look for bout in Darwin around the end of August and September.

What do you thing is that a good idea?

And what chances do I have? how many percent would you give me?

Yours opinion is importend for me. Because I'm considering of buing a flaing ticket. Of course flaing is the lest option.

On sailboats over 45ft skippers may welcome an extra hand.

As to your chances - no idea.

I would rate your chances as close to zero. Firstly, most crusing boats leaving Australia are headed for Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, and would plan to spend between six months and several years there before heading on.

Secondly, if there were a boat heading directly from Australia to Africa, which is a very long passage, I would think that the skipper would want someone with proven blue water experience. There's no turning back once they've left Australia. I, for one, would not be willing to take on a novice at sailing for such a long trip with virtually no chance of offloading the crew should they not work out.

However, if you're going to be in Australia anyway, there's certainly no harm in trying, and that's the right time to be positioned in Darwin.

Zero that saunds not good.

But you just cheers me up with this that timing is good. I just fot that if skyper would be going he will live around July to have extra time.

How meny yachts will go each year this way? What do you recon?

In the last couple of years have provided weather and routing to boats leaving Northern Australia via Cocos Keeling and South Africa, But I have no idea how many boats will leave this year. Maybe more, as the Gulf of Aden remains a problem. That is the reason for the suggestion that you communicate with the :-

Hi every body, thank you for all yours suport and info.

I got to Darwin on 1 augurs, on 5 I have found a boat.

60fit long. 4 people on bord going all the way do Africa.
