In this year, at the times selected to communicate with Cruising yachts in the waters of South East Asia on the 20 metre band on frequencies 14000 >> 14350 MHz . propagation has been very poor.

To understand the reason for this, an excellent free programme is available by contacting :-

Christian RAMADE (F6G QK) http://dxfile.free.fr

The Programme is PropHF ver. 1.3a

It demonstrates clearly that if you try the 20 metre band 0000Z and 0230Z you might get long path contacts but that's all.

Radio communication on HF radio is volatile at this time - propagation on our standard frequency of 14,323 MHz in the 20 metre band at 0025 hrs UTC (GMT) and at 0055 UTC for weather WX .

This month has shown a gradual improvement in propagation - Cruising yachts are now in contact as far afield as Japan in the East and Seychelles in the West.

Reference to the following link give the reasons for the improvement :- #1 ; http://hfradio.org/latest_chart.html

A really good programme (free) for finding the best times of the day to make contact with other parts of the world is is to be found at http://dxfile.free.fr/ written by Christian Ramade (F6GQK) it is PropHF v.1.3
