Good Day to all,
My Insurer has a few restricted areas in the policy. The one of interest at the moment is in Sabah, Borneo between Kudat N6 52.48 E 116 50.44 and Tarakan (actually in Kalimantan)N 3 20.16 E117 37.83. That's a lot of coast line with some pristine diving, Sipadan is right in there. There is some sense into that as the Philippines waters are very close and it includes the infamous islands of Jolo and Basilan with their unsavory rebels/terrorists. I did discuss the matter with the insurer; apparently, with advanced notice, I could sail the area but he did not sound overjoyed when I mentioned I was planning to hang around the diving spots. My previous insurance did not have such restricted area.
So the question is: has anyone got the same restrictions on their policies? Is anyone aware of any recent incident in that area.
I do remember the hostage taken on Sipadan in '99 or 2000, my memory is not quite perfect, they were taken to Jolo.... I was on the island (meaning Sipadan not Jolo) in 2001 and everything was back to normal.
Fair Winds,
