Ma Douleur is a 30ish-foot sailboat that I have not yet identified or purchased.

I am currently working on liquidating all of my worldly posessions at which point I will find and purchase Ma Douleur.

I plan on sailing Ma Douleur from wherever I buy her to the Caribbean. Once there, I'd like to find a job at a boatyard or marina (something on the water) that will provide income and schedule flexibility. Once established, I plan on taking day/weekend/week-long trips around the Caribbean. From there, I'll see what happens as far as more extended cruising.

I have a lot of experience on the water from when I was younger. I crewed on a Star Boat for two seasons and crewed on a 30' One-Tonne once. I have also done a lot of pleasure day-sailing including on Father's Day when I basically single-handed a Hunter 45 while my friend who footed the rental bill and the rest of the guys got soused. I worked at a boat yard for a couple of years doing harbor work, running a 35' tug boat and operating a 50' barge crane. I also piloted an old Navy mic-boat that we used for hauling stuff. Finally, I have experience in commercial salvage having worked with SeaTow.

Any feedback is appreciated.

interesting option. i plan to make/save enough ducats to live (spartanly as usual) without working before i leave. just sail around...maintain...through the magic of compound interest. though i wonder how taxes might eat me, i haven't gotten that far yet...have 10 years to go.
