Hi everyone and thanx for this fabulous resource!

My name is Magnus and I am the skipper/owner of a GRP classic, designed by the legendary Arvid Laurin.

My boat is a ketch (12 built of a total 230-something...)

This summer I made a four month circumnavigation of the Baltic Sea and Sea of Botnia and Bay of Botnia. Basically heading north along the Swedish coast and then south again on the Finland side. Since this prolonged 'vacation-trip' didn' quite make me fed up with sailuíng and cruising, I've now made a decision to sell off my business, house and all the rest of my stuff and take off on an open-ended cruise next summer.

My idea of the perfect trip would be a 20 y circumnavigation, but who knows; I might settle down on Tonga or NZ or wherever. No fixed plans or schedules is what I am after.

Anyone interested in my trip can have a look at:

www.sailblogs.com/member/rodeorm (a link to a pic gallery there too)

BTW I am teaching navigarion too and hold a commercial yachtmaster license

Fair winds

Välkommen ombord Magnus!!

As Lighthouse said, great to have another Baltic sailor here; especially one who shares my taste in Koster boats (Nausikaa is a Storfidra). I am also very pleased you have sailed to so many parts of the Baltic. Maybe you can help with our Wiki? You are under no pressure though. It is just good to have you here.

Good luck with your plans for the extended.......or maybe v e r y e x t e n d e d voyge. I wish I had the time and the money to do something similar. I am working on both.

I hope you enjoy being a member of this forum and take part in the debates we have here.

To anybody wondering about the name of Magnus' boat, RÖDA ORM (Red Snake) is the name of a classic Swedish book written by Frans G. Bengtsson. It is the story of a redheaded (röda) man called Orm (snake). He hails from the south of Sweden and is shanghaied on bord a viking ship where he becomes a friend of the ship's master. He ends up in Spain where he is taken as a slave by the Moors and set to work on a galley: but that is just one of many adventures. If you get the chance - read it. It has been translated into English.

Hi again Magnus,

Just had to add that I have quickly gone through your blogg. Great! You and I have very similar ideas about solid, traditional, well functioning maritime equipment winning hands down over modern electronic "widgits". I am not saying that there is no place for "widgets" but the sea is an unforgiving environment in which electronics, unless properly marinised, and "hobby" fittings will fail in the long run. Certainly no place to have to rely on a computer as a primary navigational instrument.

As before - nice to have you with us

Thanks a lot for such a warm welcome.

@Nausikaa

An X-tra thanks for explaining the name of my little ship. I forgot to myself. BTW, I am innocent of the name, the PO renamed her, but since the book you mention is one of my favorites, I will not rename the boat.

All the Best, Magnus
