I be a new member and landlocked for sure...(for now) ..

I'm a 62 Year Old died in the wool sailor living in Sausalito, California. We're on the water and in a houseboat with our little Albin 25, Sea Fox tied up at our tiny dock in the rear. This is a good life..

My plight!! Right now we're faced with repowering our Albin as it's old and crusted Volvo MD3b has gone over the side. Raw Water Cooling has it's curse and this was the end of our MD3b for sure.

REPOWER!! That's the plan..

So we're looking for a better fresh water cooled Diesel, 35 HP or better, no less..

Best would be a good used and complete with instrument panel, gearbox, etc. YANMAR 3JH4E, hopefully with CCW from the Stern rotation, and 2.3 ratio.

THAT'S AN AWFUL LOT TO ASK when one is looking for a good used engine...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it..

Welcome and good luck in the re-powering project.

I re-powered my 24 year old sailboat last year with a Yanmar 3MY30 30hp Diesel. It is great.

Another old salt (67).

We had a little MD2B engine on our Rawson 30--nice engine, though raw water cooled. You know, I recently learned from a cruiser friend (who is a transmission fellow and used to work on Volvos) that those MD3B engines like yours are well worth re-lining. They'll keep going for yet another 5000 hours. Amazing things.

However, if you want to get away from that cute little "fishboat" put-put engine sound that they have...and get a bit more power...onwards for another engine--a rebuilt Yanmar will likely cost you much less, be quieter, and while it won't likely last a trouble-free 5K hours of the rebuilt Volvo, it will be take up less space (and weight and probably can be found for about 1/2 the price of that Volvo rebuild--you'll have room, weight, and money for other things

Welcome aboard!
