Hey Everyone!

We are in the market for a yacht around the 28-30' range. I grew up on yachts and since have let 10 years go by since last stepping aboard. Wife, two girls (11 and 6)and a mortgage... . Cant wait till I find the right yacht for us as I want to pass on the love of sailing to my daughters. Longer term dream is to explore the pacific. This site is excellent! Lots of interesting stories, tips and advice to build up knowledge. If anyone happens to venture to the Tamar River in Northern Tasmania, then stop in and say G'day at Gravelly Beach. We are on the river front and will gladly through in a hot shower! Tamar river has 80 kms of navigatable waterway from George Town at the river mouth to Launceston city at the convergence of two smaller rivers.

keep the tips and advice flowing guys. There are people out there like me who soak it up like a sponge!

Regards,

Peter

Peter to you and yours !!!!

The size of boat that you have in mind, reminds of some sailing I did in NZ's Bay of Islands on Mike O'Briens's Herreshoff H28 - what a nice sailing boat!

ideally looking for a Compass 29, not as common as the 28's but with some neat design alterations.

G'day cobber. I'm @ the 'top-end' (FNQ) & blinken wet-as. More info - please. What's your price range? Do you want 'near innovations' or a TRULY safe, reasonably safe (only as good as the skipper & crew) quite quick, long life cruising 'life-support' systems yacht. If the later is the case why a Compas 29? Why not an S&S 34 which is 'unparalleled' in the sailing world & makes a great little 'Safe' sailing home for a small family. For a monohull you couldn't do better. If not to your liking look at 'UFO' 34 (1 was for sale in Aus @ $79k or maybe a Swanson 42 @ $109k. In today's market I'm sure you could get 20% off the asking price. All of those would be 80% above a 'Compas' for sailing qualities. Safety, comfort, ease of sailing & sea-worthiness by a large margin. IMHO I've built some of the above mentioned yachts & sailed on all of them, including a few - 'S to H' races. Your money so your call. Hope you find the 'right' yacht for you & your family. Ciao for a wet & soggy - North Qld, james
