Hi all!
I've been reading this site for couple of months, and I think its time to drop in a line. I'm still just a wannabe cruiser, I'm a finn, 39 years old man. Not too many finns writing here, or are there?
For whatever reason (reading too many adventure books too young) I have always had my mind set on taking off one day. Since I have satisfied most other odd dreams I had, I think I'll start moving towards life on a boat, in slightly warmer areas than here ( it's -23 C now, shores are allready frozen). I hope to be able to take a year off land in about five years time. After that, being wiser i guess, I'll look ways to make living aboard.
I've had a sailboat (h-boat, old finnish design) for about ten years, sailing finnish lakes, and I'm looking to uppgrade to a bluewater boat in next few years. Basic sailing and boat maintenance seem to be ok by now (i'm not learning a lot here), but i'm sadly lacking in bluewater experience: some equipment and living aboard part of it. Choosing my future boatdesign is far from being set too. Most folks seem to prefer strong, heavy boats, while i'm kind of atracted to light and fast boats.
Anyway this is just an introduction, I'll post specific topics when questions rise up.
happy new year to all, I hope we all will make our dreams come true...
