Bon dia Morvan,

Welcome to the right place to seek information.

For my pennies worth, I love small boats and would, in your position, look for a Flicka. There are quite a few of them and are easily re-sold if need be. Small, seaworthy and not out of range of most budgets.

Google "flicka sailboat" and you will find many sites with a host of information about the boat. She is small, long-keeled and has done many ocean passages.

Indeed, the Flicka is small but maybe it could be worth your while investing in one to get some experience. You should have no problems selling her later and who knows, maybe you will want to keep such a little beauty.

If we had not been lumbered with the European Small Craft Directive and the need to pay VAT on imported boats I would have bought a lovely flicka which was being sold in South Africa four years ago.

Good luck with your venture

// Stephen
