Newbie Says Hi From Fl

Hi ALL,

Glad to be here. I am somewhat new to sailing and I am considering a larger boat purchase and an exploration sail to Bimini. I've been sailing smaller boats for some years but I want to step above the day sailor soon. Any comments are appreciated. What is the best time of year to sail the Carribean and where can i find more info on the best practices and watch out for lists.

Hurricane season for the North Atlantic is from June 1 to December 1. One of the more frustrating parts of sailing to the Caribbean is the seasonal weather change. June and July are months with normally few hurricanes or tropical storms, and some boats will sail to the Caribbean during those months to take advantage of the warmer weather, and then head for Trinidad as fast as possible to wait out hurricane season there before starting their Caribbean cruising. However, sailing can be difficult as Tropical Depressions and Tropical Waves roll through the Caribbean with alternating calms and high winds and oscillations in the direction of the winds. At the other end of hurricane season, in December and January, are the "Christmas winds" which are stronger and occasionally nasty again. The rest of the time, the Caribbean is most notable for the constancy of its winds, which usually blow hard, and sometimes blow harder.

Hello All,

My name is Allan Brown [ Jack Storm] Face book. I am 57 and got my commercial Coastal Skipper [Motor] in 2007. Looking forward to doing some cross Atlantic work and getting my Yachtmaster Sail this year. Would like to teach so any advice on a course to follow would be much appreciate.
