Hiya, I'm David. 60 years of age. Doing everything I can to grow old as disgracefully s possible. I've done heaps of blue-water sailing on all manner of boat. I'm a qualified boat-builder...although that happened a very long time ago...in fact about the same time as the dead Sea was just feeling really ill. Nevertheless, skills learned are never forgotten....apart from those in reagrd to women. :--((((

I have every intention of doing one solo passage around Cape Horn before the Grim reaper takes my ear betwixt his fingers.

I'd be real keen to hear from folk who have spent time on the east Coast of South America...the place I want to be after passing the Horn, as you'll appreciate.

I'm dead keen to go through the Straits of Magellin, so any info about that area would be good.

My boat is a 45ft, 9'6" beam, fin keeler. Double skinned timber.

Remember the bit about me not understanding women, that much? Well, as a result of divorce, and me not being much into the fight, my budget for this trip is 'very' limited. So some hints on how to deal with that would also be appreciated.

I can navigate, coastal and celestial; and I have three GPS's, just for back-up. :--))

I really enjoy my own company. I often spend weeks at a time just cruising around New Zealand, on my own, never visiting any port. Or I go bush into the massive Tongariro National park, also for weeks at a time. So what appears to be a 70-day trip from Auckland to....somewhere on the East Coast of South America will be just seventy more days of me enjoying the moment.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Dpex.

Welcome aboard David and thanks for the introduction.

I hope your plans for cruising Patagonia turn out as you would like them to. I spent some time in that part of the world in the 70's but that was as a young ship's officer so my experiences there are not really comparable and certainly not related to financing the trip. I loved the place though; very wild and quite cold but with warm, friendly people like most remote, out-of-the-way places

Aye // Stephen

Welcome aboard David. Good to have you here - you're amongst friends.

I'm sure that member "Frank" will be along shortly to assist with any queries about the region - he has been cruising Patagonia for a couple of years.
