Should Have Done This Years Ago

Well I finally finished building myself a 42' gaff schooner, and the wife (admiral? first mate?) and I have been taking tentative steps in getting to know her. We're located on Long Island sound in New York and what with bad weather and no wind, our trips have been infrequent so far but with the coming of fall, we might get to sail to some of the pretty harbors on the Connecticut coast. Maybe Block Island. Any advice? Suggestions
