Default porta-boat

just got a 12' porta-boat for a tender. ..
we only use her for rowing but man is she sweet...
rows great and can only imagine how well she would motor ...

got ours on an even trade for a high end pistol... good swap on both ends...

so far seems like a rugged tender with plenty of rooom for provisions ...
probably have to go on a fuel dock to collapse her. but very stable boat and seems like a good fit for us.

Ah, we've been keeping an eye on the Craigslist ads for one here for ages! They do pop up but usually have a motor that we don't want or something. The 12' is the "right" size I think. We'd like it as the spare dingy and the "beater" dingy.

We have a friend with the 12' square back (older ones have a back that comes in a bit) and uses a little Honda 2hp to go all over the place. They love it. We went with he and his wife on a major provisioning run and were amazed by how much stuff that thing could carry, too.

Their boat doesn't have a whole lot of deck space but they manage to get it put together onboard w/o a problem. They do so at anchor all the time. Practice.

Best to you

ours is the older model with the pinched transom. I'm sure we will eventually get to assembling/disassembling it on deck but for now a dock is just easier... still a lot of clutter trying to get everything ready for the trip south.

Yesterday, a guy with one said he couldn't believe how fast his was, with very little horsepower. A friend used one for 20 years of full time living aboard ( the double ended rowing version. To bad they don't make that kind any more.) When it eventually wore out, he considered himself very lucky to find an identical one. He loves them.

It seems a damned shame that the row-only double ender is no longer in production. I have not owned one of these, but I know many who did...and they swore by them.

Given their simplicity, one could buy a similar plastic and some stainless staples ,take patterns off an existing one, and make one's own.

It seems like all the good stuff stops being made We've been using a Tinker Traveller (folding rowable inflatable) since 2006 and the plywood floor is getting bendy. We're torn -- can't buy another one because they're no longer made -- and can't image the work to replace the ply floor but may have to do it.
