Good day,

We are a family of four considering a R&C 38' cat to purchase as a liveaboard. We are concerned however, about the minimal storage on this particular model and with growing pre-teen, boy/girl twins, we are also wondering if overall space with be sufficient (room for homeschooling, crafts, privacy, etc.)

We would appreciate any recommendations and of course, would love to hear from any cruising families with regard to these issues with children.

Thank you so much.

I own a R&C 42'Cat which I am refitting in the UK for world cruising. I know the R&C cats well having sailed them for many years on charters and my own in the Mediteranean.

The 38' is significantly smaller than either the 42 (or 43) and the 45'. Even with the 42' storage space is an issue and we are currently removing one of the aft cabins and heads to make way for better storage and navigation station. If you are considerig the purchase of a new 38 I would look at instead a used 42 or 45. Although the 38 does have a great volume it suffers from a lot of space being taken by its enormous shower/heads.

The R&C catamarans are superbly built and amazingly strong (built to withstand chaterers smashing them up!) and ours gives us a great deal of pleasure. She is currently in Portugal for the winter and back in Wales in the spring
