Howdy y'all !!!

We be lookin' for a wall mount for our flat screen. Somethin' that would lock in to place on the wall when we're under way so it wouldn't swing out and flop

Hi,

Depending on what make and model you have, and where you are -

Click on :- Wall mount

Also :- US Suppliers

In the US, Peerless Industries make some very good designs - see :- PEERLESS

Don't forget Bungy Cord & and a couple of small pad eyes

I'm certainly no expert, but...

We mounted our flat screen teevee on an articulating arm so we can change the viewing position as desired.

Next, I screwed a brass eye bolt (about 3/4 inch eye diameter) located a few inches above the mounting base, on the bulkhead.

When we get underway, we simply loop a short bungee cord around the top portion of the tv, which holds the unit securely against the bulkhead.

Arrrr Boy can even watch his favorite Popeye cartoons while we're plowing through waves if we position the shock cord above the screen area.

Now - the dedicated bungee simply "lives" with both hooks in the eye bolt, behind the television, always at the ready. All we have to do is loop it over the top.

AND - the eye bolt makes a primo place to help secure and organize all of the countless cables & wires leading to & from the teevee and input devices with just a bit of string.

Easy.

To Life!

Kirk

We looked at all the mounts you could buy, and then saw what a sistership had done. Zouk took 3/4" ply, used big hinges at the bottom and mounted the screen with the 4 screw sockets in the back of the screen. The ply was jigs sawed into an 'X' shape to save weight and mounted at the base of the existing bookshelf so the bookshelf was still accessable by pivoting the screen down to horizontal. The lock was a line, pulley and jam cleat, a solution that lends itself to lots of configurations. We copied it!

What is happening here? Is the plan not to leave this kind of thing behind us and experience the delights of other countries or are we going to sit below decks enjoying the delights of US and British soaps?

If you need to consider how to mount your flat screen, why bother going to sea at all? Stay at home and enjoy it all in large screen quadraphonic sound and leave cruising to those who can live without tv.

Hey Stephen,

We live aboard. We'll be living aboard for I don't know...how many years we'll be voyaging. There's a whole world to experience and that will take years and years and years.

We have two flat screen computer screens bulkhead mounted. Both for computers but one is also used for watching movies, PBS specials, news...etc... it is part of our lives.

We don't intend to "turn off" our life and "turn on going to sea" but rather to live our lives---here at home and at sea. Our boat is our home.

OK. I take your point. I did not consider a PC screen.
