I'll be pulling the stained carpeting off the insides of my V-berth area soon, and plan to insulate and run wooden slats over the insulation. The question is, what to use? Is there a foil-type insulation that is very thin and effective, or would foam work better? How thick a sheet of foam should I use? I don't want to lose too much sleeping space up there

One of our new members Airedale is a professional - check his posting he is going to line with cork (which is a good insulator) see L I N K

Thanks, the cork looks like an easy-to-work with material, as well. I especially like that I can get colored sheets as the insulation will be visible between the wooden slats in that part of the boat.
