An all-time favorite AND easy to make.

Beer Bread

500g Self-raising flour

5ml Salt

1 Can (340ml) beer

Sift flour and salt, add beer and mix. If mixture is too stiff, add a little water.

Bake in greased 1.2 litre loaf tin (1/2 size loaf tin) at 180c for approx 1 hour.

Var:

Crispy fried bacon or parsley or green pepper or onion, or corn or cheese or garlic,

or a mixture of the above can be added.

Hell, that beer bread is worse than the old biscuits we used to get in the forces - you can use a loaf of it as an anchor for your dink it is so heavy! Try this "No Need to Kneed" bread:

Wholewheat / Nutty Wheat / White Bread

3 Cups Nutty Wheat or Wholewheat or White Bread flour

2 Cups Cake flour

1 Teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon sugar

1 Sachet dry instant yeast

1 Tablespoon sunflower or olive oil

2 ½ cups warm water

Mix all the dry ingredients together then add the oil and warm water. Place mixture in one large or two small oiled bread pans. Place the pans in used shopping bages and let rise in a warm place for about an hour. Remove from packet and bake in a preheated oven @ 180°C for 1 hour.

Variations: Add a large handful of chopped black olives to one loaf tin if using two smaller tins - or grated cheese - or rasins - or whatever tingles your taste buds!
