I've just updated our page, http://www.waituimarinafiji.com/clearance.html, to reflect the newest changes in entry, mostly in fees charged, than anything else.

I've made it a point to bring out on the page, and I'll bring it out again here, that the Interrim Government of Fiji is operating under Decree, not a constitution, and that the PER's (Public Emergency Regulations) are still in force, which allow any duly appointed person to do what they whatever they consider appropriate to carry out their duties.

They are required to present a warrant card (ID), and to issue a reciept for any monies collected. If you are assessed a fee not listed, pay the fee, collect the reciept, and argue in the appropriate office later.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at sales@bebi-electronics.com

best,

Thank you, Michael, for keeping us up to date. Fiji is a lovely country that many cruisers find difficult to tear themselves away from. We found Fijians to be lovely and gentle people who kept their villages extremely clean and tidy. We loved it so much we even returned by sailing from the Solomon Islands back to Fiji. That was a slog. Our log, Solomons to Vanuatu

On our first visit in 1993, one of the yachts chose not to declare the firearm that they had on their boat. Their reasoning was that it would be such a hassle to get it back when they checked out from Lautoka that better not to declare it and have it removed from the boat in Suva. The Fijian Customs apparently knew of the gun from one of the other ports they had checked out from and where they had declared the weapon (to quote you, "Yes, Immigrations have networked computers and they know how to use them!"). And so they arrested the owner of the boat and prosecuted him! That's one way of ruining one's visit to this lovely country.

Fair winds,

J

Hey Michael,

Still gagging to get up your way this season but plans (as always) seem to change. We're off to Dravuni in northern Kadavu on Sunday for a couple of weeks installing a new floating dock then off to NZ for a yacht delivery then MAYBE cruising Fiji in which case we will see you. The only thing likely to hamper our plans is a potential job offer in the states that may involve skippering someone elses boat around the Pacific for a few years.

From the western Bebi rep, still festering in Vuda and wondering what to do about the barnacles.
