Many moons ago - George Fogden ('Phoggy' - Engineer with Cathay Pacific) and yours truly took out our sextants and produced a map of Hong Kong's Kowloon's Mong Kok's cruiser's paradise. Every shop in Portland Rd , Shanghai St, Reclamation St and Canton road was interviewed - their products seen and recorded - the shop duly entered on a map with a special code indicating type etc.
The most amazing find was that a string of adjoining shops would sell the identical product eg Springs of every size, type, material, shape, length, tension etc.
The next group might be selling every type of Stainless Steel,
The next might be bronze fittings,
and the next pumps for every application. And so and so on..
