Now more than a year in Spanish Mediterranean waters we observed a weather pattern making sailing approach hard when coming from east.
The locals call it Poniente witch is nothing new. It blows over 40 kn from the west. But it is the fog, that is very dense in the vicinity of the Strait (15-21M), that is not mentioned in any Pilot books I have read.
It starts some10-14 hrs before the actual Poniente (W) sets in. Normally there is no problem when the boat is equipped with a radar, but with the heavy traffic on the entrance it can get a nightmare.
