I'd hate to be in a disabled vessel drifting toward this coast.

Scary stuff

I've sailed through there when conditions were good.... very strong currents that really build up the sea ..... you can always take the long way round if conditions are bad. Just north across the Bai de Brest is the Chanel du Four - another interesting navigation.

I am on that coast at the moment. Beautiful place and dead calm just now but in a westerly storm I would not like to be out there or the guy in the helicpter taking the photographs.

Have sailed the Brittany coastline between St. Malo in the north all the way down to Lorient in the south, spending some days in the area between the Ile D'Ouessant (Ushant) and the Ile de Sain / Pointe du Raz. Of corse it was in early August with light winds and perfect blue skies. No overfalls but tremendous tidal currents. A truely breathtaking, rocky coastline with Â*lighthouses on many but not all rocks. Incredible that breaking seas and spray can cover the whole tower... Â*All of them are remote controlled now but not too long ago they had lighthouse keepers that had to endure this kind of weather. Â* Â* ThisÂ* Â* lighthouse Â*keeper Â*( on La Jument) was just taking a brief look for the helicopter but was able to close the door right in time!
