Picked this up from a UK site and trust no issues in repeating it here. If anyone has news please contact the people mentioned directly.

This request for assistance is being sent via blind distribution to members of the International Boat Watch Network who are in the affected areas of interest. Also, copy is included for Barbara Smith, originator of the request.

We have a request for assistance from Barbara Smith, on behalf of the

worried family members of the skipper of S/V COLROS which is overdue on his

journey from Cornwall, United Kingdom to Madeira in route ultimately to

Tobago in the Caribbean.

COLROS is described as follows: Length: 27 feet, Construction: steel, Type:

sloop, off-white hull paint, new red sails, windvane, bowsprit, perspex

observation dome, low doghouse, transom-hung rudder, long keel, small

self-draining cockpit, diesel-powered. Home Port: Salcombe, Devon, United

Kingdom, Registration #: 122221

We are unclear exactly what communications capabilities are on board and

working. We believe he has marine VHF, and the capability for Amateur Radio

and Winlink 2000 (he had a ham radio license) amateur radio callsign:

M0SYC. No position reports have ever been posted on Winlink by this vessel.

Colros left Newlyn, Cornwall, United Kingdom on Dec 22 2006. Last contact

from Colros was via cell phone from five miles off Land's End, Cornwall,

United Kingdom on Dec 22 2006. First destination was Madeira (ETA within a

month of Dec 22 2006), not to stop but just to check in with family via cell

phone, but we didn't hear anything. Final destination on this leg of journey

was Tobago, Carribean, ETA mid-February 2007.

Persons on Board: One male, 53 years old. Name: David H.H.L. Cartwright.

Citizen of United Kingdom.

Message: David, please call home, we are worried about you.

The search for COLROS continues but has of today been officially declared "missing".

I hope David is OK and found soon.

Nothing saddens me quite so much as reading about boats missing at sea. I hope there will be good news soon, for the families of those aboard this vessel.

Dear Friends,

I promised to update you with any news of S/Y COLROS and her skipper, David Cartwright. We received word yesterday morning from the Suffolk police to say that Colros has been found drifting in the mid-Atlantic. David was not on board.

Colros was spotted by the crew of a "super yacht" two days ago (May 30th) about 600 nautical miles SW of the Azores; they contacted the authorities who asked them to board her - two crewmembers did - and they picked up David's log and passport, which they will hand over to the Gibraltar police when they arrive there around June 5th. They left Colros drifting (apparently that's all they could do) and presumably she'll make landfall at some point.

David's last entry in the log was January 8th when he was about 180 miles west of Lisbon, putting him right on course / on time for Madeira.

The police did not have any details about what the log says, but stated that (from the report received) there was apparently nothing significant in the log which might help explain David's disappearance. We assume he fell overboard, obviously the result of some kind of accident - a fall or a sudden squall. The police are investigating and I think we'll know the most likely scenario pretty soon.

Colros has apparently sustained some damage to the mast, but she's upright and nothing about her suggests a capsizing. Her sails are a bit tattered but that's understandable as she's drifted for four months and a total of 420 miles from the last logbook entry.

David's family would be very grateful if word could be passed around in the sailing community that we would very much like to recover Colros and David's personal possesions, if possible.

I am sorry to be the bearer of such sad news. We draw enormous comfort from the fact that David was happy living his dream when he left us.

Have been liaising with Bob in the UK about this but he has gone to bed as it's late

I have notified two of the relatives including Barbara and have also e-mailed you , please let me know if you have problems with it as it sometimes gets blocked
