The Aegean Sea page on the World Cruising and Sailing Wiki (free, online, world cruising guide) needs you to add/edit/contribute the information that you can to assist all the other cruisers around the world that are following in your wake. Help to build a great cruising resource.

GRAB A PAGE AND BUILD IT!

This Aegean Sea Cruising Guide is well developed and a very useful resource.

Add what you can to make it even better.

There is some discussion going on about font size in the tables (ports, etc). In the earlier version of the Aegean page the font was 100%. The current version uses a font of 80%. This issue is not restricted to the Aegean page but to many other with large tables as well.

We need some feedback from CL members as to which is preferable. Please post you opinion on this thread here. (see Aegean Sea link)

The Wiki is intended to be a resourse for cruisers. As such, all cruisers (and others) who are in a position to make positive entries in the Wiki are encouraged to do so.

However, the issue of the font is holy. They should not be altered. They are standard throughout the Wiki (not just Greece) and they should remain so.

Please, for the benefit of all and for the sake of uniformity DO NOT ALTER THE FONT SIZES.

The section on Greece is a fantastic piece of work which could be ruined (as can all others) by messing with the fonts DON'T DO IT.

Thanks

Stephen

We are only talking about font size in very large tables to make them fit on a page, otherwise they would overrun.

May I suggest the table layout as under "Another Table" -- "or, Double Header Rows" at: http://www.cruiserlog.com/wiki/index...=Pagetemplates

The "Double Header Rows" table layout allows the retention of font size on multi-column tables, without the table getting too wide. Add/remove rows/columns as required.

This would be a good compromise IMHO.

Ah, I understand this. It is nice to not have them overrun. However, I frequently use the wiki with a small screen size notebook w/high resolution--this makes things so tiny they're unreadable. Many other folks also use notebooks or even PDA devices with severely restricted screen size and this makes it impossible to read these tables on the smaller screens.

The font selection is part of the style of the cruising wiki--this re-sizing is not only more difficult to read and use, but it also doesn't carry forward with the rest of the cruising wiki.

Thank you, summertime cruise, for your interest in and your help in trying to make the cruising wiki as usable as possible! Clearly you weren't happy with the ability to navigate the tables as they were and I hope we can find a way to keep fonts readable, pages aesthetically pleasing and cohesive while addressing the issues that you bring up. I do suggest some compromise be made (perhaps what Lighthouse suggested?) but please lets not yet re-do formatting like this of more pages w/o feedback from other CL members. Else, lots of re-work will be required to get things back to a format that is consistent within the cruising wiki and pleasing to the most folks.

Fair winds,

Brenda

I have changed the format of the tables increasing the font size back to 100% and incorporating the ideas of Lighthouse and summercruise.

If you do not like it we can easily revert to earlier versions.

I tend to use good old HTML markup for tables, as it is accepted by Wiki with some limitations, and much more versatile.

The Wiki classes are accepted so consistency of layout with colours is kept

As I have commented elsewhere, it is much easier for the layman to edit.

Wiki markup tables are a nightmare to work with and learn, hence you don't see many of them.

The problem with a double header is that if one column is 30 entries long, you have to scroll down pages to get to the second header,

this is magnified if the smaller columns do not have a the style tag align=top (only recently introduced). How you find anything on a Blackberry I don't know !

However I have increased the table size to 90% on the Ireland page, as the tables still hold without overrun.

No rework is required to return to a former format .... just click on the Icon (undo)

Yep I used to use a PDA, but found it too small also, could never see those bloody rocks on the screen chart

I have been away cruising and just got back. Surprised to find that presentation of data in the Wiki had been altered so that it becomes readable only with a magnifying glass. An analogy would be similar to a person going into someone's house and rearranging the furniture. Whereas, if new furniture, additions and other fresh material was being delivered, that would be more than welcome. BUT please do not change the presentation and formatting of contributions by members.

Welcome back "propulsion" - thought I hadn't seen you around for a while. The pages affected have now been reverted back to the normal size text.

Enjoy!
