Another great set of photos from "Maine Cruising" showing the inner workings of the common heat-exchanger.

Note that you should change the heat-exchanger's zincs every 8 to 10 weeks.

On a metal boat your entire hull is a potential heat exchanger. I use my skeg , eliminating salt water pump, saltwater intake , strainer, and many other potential problems.
