Default Winch problems

All, I am new to this forum. This week I had the winch holding my centerboard up quit working. There are no markings except for one emblem on top of it to say what type it is. Seems as though the spring inside has given away.
Is there a way of putting the picture I took of this on here so one can see what it looks like? I am using an IPAD for this so I can't see how to upload a picture.
Thank you,
Bryan

There is a little icon of a picture with mountain right above the field in which you type your reply. There you can enter the url of the image you'd like us to see.

If the picture is not already hosted on a site like flickr you can upload a pic to your own gallery here on Cruiserlog. Simply go to your own page (click on your user name and you'll be taken there) and add a gallery. You'll see the gallery info down at the lower right side of your page. Follow the directions there to upload an image. Once you've uploaded it, you can link to its URL here in your topic.

Can't wait to see your pic

Here's your pic:

To get it, you go into Flickr, choose Actions--view all sizes, then choose a reasonable size to view. Right click on the image and copy the image URL. Then paste it here as mentioned.

That's a Merriman logo. The company has been out of business for about 30 years or so. You should be able to disassemble the winch and you'll find pawls and springs inside. Some local marine stores carry common Merriman pawls (even West Marine has some) but this isn't a common winch.

One place which has many pawls for Merriman winches is Rigrite See here
Merriman Winches

Good luck.

Thanks for the help redbopeep. I had been to rig rite website and decided to send them an email with the picture to see what they think. I live 500 miles from my boat so when I get to go there I am limited on time as to what I can do while there. This trip was meant for sailing but instead I ended up replacing a broken pendant for centerboard. My first and hopefully my last like this one. Then at the end we found the broken winch which was to broke beforehand. No time to fix then cause had Togo back home. But Ithought research might get me ready for next trip.
Thanks again!
Bryan
