FLIR Systems advise that they have acquired RAYMARINE 'Lock stock and Barrel'

and CLICK HERE

This development needs careful watching and analysis - A high percentage of modern day sailboats have Raymarine equipment on board.

I hope FLIR systems can bring some reasonable software developers to the party.

Raymarine autopilots, while widely installed, have in my experience some really nasty and basic software flaws. The S2 system I have has been plagued with problems from day 1. It continually falls off course without attempting to correct, which to my mind fails the basic function of an autopilot (if the boat is off course, steer back onto course, rinse later repeat). Repeatedly going back to the local installers and distributors has achieved no results. My old Autohelm ST4000 although under-rated for the boat performs much more accurately. I've spoken to other Raymarine S series owners, all have the same problems.

Anyway, enough grumbling, I hope it all goes well for them. Raymarine's a good company overall with an impressive range of products and a long history, let's hope it keeps going.

Del, concern must be echoed, How may companies when taken over result in poor service and worse, products are not developed to their full potential ????????

I agree with this and I am concerned since I have several RayMarine instruments on my boat.

It is seldom indeed when a successful is acquired by another that the old company improves. Usually it deteriorates.

Well I'm not impressed. Their marketing is woeful, the video I saw made me want to shoot the presenter for his disgustingly condescending tone and complete failure to provide any real information. They have way too many confusing "series" of things, I gave up trying to figure out which ones did what. They have way too many network interfaces to support so interconnection is sure to be a nightmare. However the service in Australia is supposed to be good, lots of people know how to install their gear.

[Yeah, I have Raymarine gear on my boat too]
