Default Liferaft needed in Port St Louis

HI All

Can anyone help me think through options - I need a liferaft (4 or 6 people) I'm in Port St Louis (South France) and I only have a few days. Oh, did I mention that I want to spend less than the 1200 Euros I've been quoted?

Thanks
J

I just paid AUD90 for a 4-man inflatable dinghy off eBay. If it's a local requirement (you don't mention the reason for needing one so urgently) then this may do the job.

There are places which rent life rafts per day, week, month. Dunno if you've got such a place near you (e.g. http://www.avalonrafts.com/raft_rental.htm)? If you're needing it permanently on the boat, then you'll just have to purchase one, though.

Default Solved with cash

Thanks for the advice both of you. I am at Port St Louis until Sunday and then we need to leave for Tunisia and to satisfy a whole lot of bureaucracies! So the time pressure is real. I tried e-bay, no close-by success and the options for renting etc won't work for us.

I can't understand how a manufacturer can promise delivery of a liferaft "maximum five weeks"!

So I bought the 6 man they had in stock. That makes the raft more spacious than the boat!

Anyway, I feel like I've done my duty!

I am sorry to butt in here but you said you are there till sunday and then need to leave ... sailors know hat when sailing and particularly cruising that timetables go out the window and sometimes its best to wait a little longer than to head out in adverse weather conditions. When pressured by time things invariably end up going wrong and for the sake of time it just aint worth it.

I do advise caution ahead of timetables ...

Glad you found a liferaft, though. Hopefully you also have EPIRB and other emergency gear aboard that is needed as well. We last heard from you in 2009 when you we thinking of purchasing a boat. And--until now didn't know that you had a boat. Is this your first passage on the boat?

Fair winds,
