Default Trim tab windvane construction

Has anyone here ever built a trim tab windvane system for a boat with a transom hung rudder?
If so where did you get your plans?
I've seen several books online, and even free online plans but with the books I'm always suspicious what i'm really buying and the free plans are all very vague...

We are going to start construction on our boat in the next couple of weeks.... it will probably be nearly a year before I build the rudder ( big barn door rudder) but as it's always prudent to plan ahead thought I'd put a feeler out for if anyone has any recommendations for a simple robust main rudder trim tab systems.

thanks,

Lin/Larry Pardey are incredibly credible sources of info. They used a trim tab on outboard rudder and describe it in their book Self Sufficient Sailor Self-Sufficient Sailor - Larry Pardey, Lin Pardey - Google Books
You probably have a copy of the book. It is a good starting place for your information.

I have that book... I'll take another look...
.....

Though I have to say... when I found out they're are both midgets there arguments for a small boat lost a lot of cred. She's under 5ft tall he's like 5'6... I'm 6'2, Debs is 5'10.

... just took a look at their book again.. chapter 31 the thurth about windvanes. Talks about trim tabs in vague terms... I know this is what we want..... I want detailed plans.

In the appendix of The Long Way by Bernard Moitessier he descibes his as well as several others.
Brent Swain has an effective design also.

I'll check it out.

... just found some great youtube videos about larry pardeys system... it's called the Freehand Self Steering and is built by Anderson Boat Works... sexy system... only one I've ever seen in solid bronze.... can't imagine what it costs though....
.... and we won't have a backstay so wouldn't be able to mount that her on our boat, as designed.... but simple enough and the videos have enough detail that I may be able to replicate something similar... would like to see a horizontal variant....
