Anyone point me in the right direction on how to make a water maker for my sailing boat? <_<

Hi Lloyd, Google up eBay and type 'desalinator' into the search field. There is a bloke in the US who regularly advertises a 'make your own' desalinator. Don't know anything about him or his project, but it may be a good place to start.

Best wishes.

David.

Good Old Boat Magazine has a great "How to Build Your Own Watermaker" aritcle from 2003 that my husband Michael used for ours. We have the capacity for 45gph.

Blessings,

Normandie

Lynx, wonderful site. That's much better than having to send someone to hunt up the Good Old Boat issue--well laid out and informative.

Thanks,

Normandie

I bought the e-book from: http://www.sailready.com/

Besides other useful information for a beginner, (cruisier in study), the author includes plans to build your own water maker. He suggests that it is half the price of buying a factory model with much greater capacity. So far I have not studied or know much about desalinization units so I can not give a fair evaluation on what I read. If his claims are true, the price of his e-book is worth the money, many times over.

I could cut an paste the plans here, but I think the e-book is copyrighted. That would not be right or fair. Presently (and timely) there is another active thread on this board concerning copy rights.

I performed this exercise last year and determined that it wasn't worth my time to build my own when I consider the value of the warranty and the cost of the PCB to provide the automatic functionality that I would want from a water maker.
