Antarctica is too far south for tropicalcyclones to get anywhere near it. If a system made it into the westerly windbelt along the south coast of Australia, there is no mechanism that could takeit further south.
Tropical Cyclone wasa particular favorites of mine as it had my name. It started in the Coral Sea,moved west across the Cape York Peninsula to the Gulf of Carpentaria and thecontinued west across the top end of the Northern Territory south of Darwin. Itlost its status as a tropical cyclone but, as a rain depression, it broughtflooding to Katherine. The system then moved further west into the Timor Seawhere it reformed and was reclassified as a Tropical Cyclone as it moved downthe Western Australian coast. It touched on Category 3 at this stage but it hadonly been Cat 1 or Cat 2 up to then.
As it moved south,it remained an identifiable system but lost its status as a tropical cyclone asits nature had changed. As an ex-tropical cyclone it moved over Perth thensoutheast to the Great Australian Bight. It crossed the Bight into SouthAustralia and the system brought good rain to New South Wales and Victoriabefore it fizzled out.
While the systemdid the grand tour around Australia, it wasn't a tropical cyclone during itstime in the south of the country and it was nowhere near Antarctica. SouthernAustralia is further from Antarctica than San Francisco is from Alaska.
