Default Cyclone Pam

This was one small piece of happy news from an otherwise battered and damaged Port Vila, Vanuatu:

"The Port Vila Boatyard facility (including all yachts / vessels secured in the yard and on our moorings) suffered NO damage from the cat 5 cyclone "Pam" which skirted past Efate and Port Vila on Friday the 13th of March 2015. We will be busy cleaning up the Boatyard this week to be ready to carry out repair work on all the damaged and sunken vessels in Port Vila. We are also assisting in the recovery of damaged vessels from Port Vila Bay and Havannah Harbour. Our office is currently closed so please contact Justin (...) if you need assistance."

Good to hear you came through it well. Is there anywhere in the world which gets thumped so often as Vanuatu?

I would say that Australia gets thumped more often than anywhere. This is the first big cyclone that Vanuatu has seen in some time, there are usually a few cat 1s and 2s through the northern islands but big ones this far south in Vanuatu are fairly rare.

Having said that, there is almost nowhere in the S. Pacific that is cyclone free.
