I found a port stern quarter pic of a Prout which looks very similar, but a Manta is NOT a bird, not even a blue one, so I am still stumped.

Pete,

Got it - A Prout ! Just one of over 4,000 Catamarans delivered by Prout - It looks like a Prout Manta - but probably a Prout 38 Snow Goose of a later vintage. With a sort of 'fly bridge' added.

(Snow geese are white but there is a Blue morph of the same species)

Richard

I defer to you as always, but I really think it is a Manta, those of that designation I have seen CAME with that cockpit/helm configuration. As another member commented " I do not want to have to venture forward in a seaway on that boat!! "

As this is forum for multihulls - would it be unfair to conclude that the clue is related to this Lagoon ? :-

Which some of my multihull friends say that it resembles a block of water borne flats - however, the vertical windows inside ensure a lot more usable space on the shelf below the window.

So if one is an owner of a lagoon - it is likely that one will disregard comments about beauty.

Here is a salute to one of multihull's real pioneers - borrowing from the Polynesian masters - a classic ocean going catamaran:-

Wharram cat? James Wharram? Just before we left SE Asia we met an American fellow who had just built one of these in Thailand (or Philippines - I've been away too long). Interesting boat, but much simpler and low aspect than any modern production cat.

Aren't 2 of these being donated, and delivered to 2 small South Pacific islands, so the islanders can do trade?

Correct, James Wharram 'Pahi' design. this one a 50ft.

- 'Pahis' are also seen up to 65ft.

I guess 95% of Wharram cats are home built from the designer's plans.
