Re the British Piracy Act; interesting stuff, but the most interesting parts, i.e. the sanctions for piracy have been repealed: perhaps, unfortunately

Very unfortunately that the more realistic and real responses to that crime have been removed. I often wonder if the folks in government do so to protect themselves. The interesting thing is the article was hijacked itself and had a rather large pro wiki leaks section inserted. You know we really should not have gotten rid of the stocks, whipping post, and other such forms of direct and measured punishment. It saves so much in expenses and the punishment is done and over with publicly and shortly. Since history has shown again and again that for over 80% of criminal that enter the prison system will repeat the same or worst criminal activity, better to get the punishment over and than have them work of the debt of the damages to society or the persons involved and be done with it.

For Pirates and their ilk, rope; stout rope and a strong beam. I don't mean to offend, but i will also not apologies for holding the opinion.

Hi ChiroEurope,

Thanks for your thoughts on the punishment and resolution of the crime of Piracy.

We published that litany of reports of recent and not so recent, the activities of Somali Pirates, merely to illustrate the extent. Also to bring to cruisers attention the plight of many hundreds of sailors and fishermen being held presently in appalling conditions.

We also note in a number of forums, a consensus which blames the state of the Somalia as a country for the occupation or vocation as a pirate. Well it is a pity that the uninformed do not take the time and the effort to study the history of Somalia and the Somali.

For centuries Somalia has encouraged piracy. Various governments have actively funded pirate ships and boats (don't exclude the British, the Spanish and the French for their actions in the past) Somalia's bureaucracies even today enjoy a slice of the pirate's booty.

History tell us that Somalis have been actively engaged in Piracy on the high Seas, non-stop for at least 7 centuries.

EG:- "Somali pirates then later discovered the Maldives for gold in the 13th Century before the Portuguese. Their stay later ended in a bloody conflict known by the Somalis as "Dagaal Diig Badaaney" in 1424."
