Pirate shot dead by MMNETSEA really grabbed my attention in the new posts - glad to hear that it was actually someone else weilding the gun!

Pete

I think that killing people - even serious criminals - is not a solution. Law enforcement should be strong enough to catch them without killing. After that they should either be taught to be law-abiding people, or if it is not possible separated from the society so they cannot make trouble. Of course when the criminal attacks with lethal weaponry, and one (either law enforcement or simple people) defends oneself, accidents can happen. Yes, in this case the pirate was the one who was searching trouble, and the accident did happen.

I do not blame the one who actually shot him, but killing them should not be the goal.

There are several questions I have about the incidents, including:

- What precautions has the attacked vessel taken?

- Did they follow all the protocols suggested by Navfor?

- How much time has passed between when they alerted Navfor and when it arrived?

- Who shot first?

I have just read about the precautions, and it is said that Navfor copters are capable to arrive in 5 minutes into any point in the designated waterway.

It also seemed like the precautions are enough to keep pirates off ship for more than that five minutes and keep the crew safe for at least another hour.

If it is true, then I see no reason for using lethal weaponry (except for showing force) until they board the ship.

Nice. Hope the captured guys actually get to face a court, instead of being let go.
