Yesterday, a Seychelles court sentenced 10 Somali pirates to 20 years. But, they have a prisoner exchange agreement between the two countries so these pirates could be sent to Somalia to "serve their terms" because of overcrowding of prisons in the Seychelles. What a joke!

And this is precisely the problem with pirates. As long as the "civilized" nations pay, on the one hand, the exorbitant ransoms, and on the other, do not jail for a very long actual time the ones caught they will not stop.

... and the EU fears that this way Somalians have the easiest and most comfortable way to enter the Union ... to apply for asylum! Â*Then, they are not just prisoners, they could be refugees that have to be taken care of. That does not fit into the picture of the "fortification Europe"...

G'day 'the big light # 1. Sorry to see that only 2 people have made a comment to your 'what a joke' comment but then I'm the 3rd. Couldn't agree more with the views expressed. Richard was right - don't go there - - Stephen was right also HOWEVER - - no one else is listening. However - that said - The Australian media - has for the first time in living history - put this item 'Family stuff-up' on the first page of the e-mail news network. At least we are finally getting into the 'public' arena & I hope consciousness (or however you spell it) . We ALL NEED TO KEEP YELLING (& yes I am & Yes I was) & Yes I do 18 e-mails today to my Australian Politicians to 'pull their collective finger out & do it promptly. Stand up or get out. Whilst I'm sure I was heard & listened to, I'm equally sure they will do little or nothing but I have yet to get started. Many of our 'state' & 'federal' (or should that be feral) polies are yachts persons & I have fixed more than a few of their yachts on a FOC basis, which still don't count for zit, I'm sure. I will keep trying - The squeaky wheel gets the most oil - & as you all may well have noticed I am a pain. Sorry about that but Ciao, james
