Status of Kidnapped Family on S/V ING
Does anyone know what the status is of this family that was kidnapped by pirates last year? We were discussing this at dinner the other night and realized that no body had heard anything.
Any info or links would be appreciated!

Only news I know of was that Julian Bauer (German national) was involved in the ransom negotiations. $6M was paid, news reports state that some went directly to Bauer's bank account. No news of release of SV Ing crew though.

Perhaps the 6 million would have been better spent on retired Seals. These guys are pirates. They are by definition untrustworthy and bloodthirsty killers and desperados. Paying them just encourages more kidnapping.

I agree with you Coyote. All funds should be focused on removal of the problem and not paying for rescue. In the end, the real problem is a lack of government in the area that will prosecute the hords of cot crazed bandits.
I get this report each week if anyone is interested..

Gooday U-mob. So y'all would rather be in Queensland - going to Victoria - than over there, eh ???? That would make for better cruising - long term - me thinks.
Antifouling lasts longer on the hard in Bundy than having your buts shot off over there. Oh & you'll last longer also.
I'm on your side but much farther north.
You two keep well - you hear. Ciao, james

Well, we are spending time here in Australia filling the kitty and investigating alternative routes to the Med. Right now we are hot on the trail to a trucking option from Dubai to Aqaba, Jordan. If this option holds true, you can count on us reporting on it in realtime.
Right now we are being told there are limits to the size of boat as would be expected, but I believe Trim fit the dimensions (14.5m tall x 16-17m long) with mast unstepped and stored on deck. Custom cradles will have to be fabricated, but I believe they are practiced at doing this based on what I read from S/V Chinook.

Do you mean 4.5 meters tall? Or perhaps 14.5 feet?

They got released and are home and well, but guess it was the last trip around the world for them.
