There are few reviews of this product available. This suggests it has not been on the market for long. It is a two part epoxy glue which will set underwater and which remains flexible after curing. This is the reason why it is more suitable for sail repair than most other two part epoxies on the market.

New products which are designed for sailors and are effective, especially offshore, are always keenly sought after. The people who market this product say it is part of the maintenance kit for most of the boats in the Volvo around the world race. This is a good recommendation and it would be nice to hear from entrants who have relied on the product.

It is not cheap. Then again nothing of worth usually is. On Amazon it will cost you a minimum of $48.45 for 25 ml delivered to US domestic addresses. 3M Scotchweld as an alternative, flexible two part epoxy is about $24 delivered for twice the amount, but it requires 48 hours to fully cure as opposed to 24 hours for DrSails (which apparently reaches 80% of cure strength in less than half an hour.)

I have a sewing machine and a couple of awls on board, along with a squillion yards of sail repair tape and spare cloth, so it will probably be a while before I need to try Dr Sails.
Meanwhile I hope we get to hear from people who have genuinely used the product in offshore conditions.

If it matches the claims, it will be a worthwhile inclusion for any cruising sail boat.

Thanks for your note Auzzee!

DrSails has been on the road for 3 years. For the first two years, we tuned down its features/performance along with VOR and Barcelona world Race teams, among others. Once we knew the product would work under the most difficult conditions we decided to introduce it into the cruisers world. We entered the US market last year and DrSails 25ml price range goes from $38.50 to $45 (shipping costs not included)

As you mentioned DrSails was used extensively by VOR teams in the last edition.

What kind of feedback have you been getting from cruising sailors? Just curious really. It's clear that the product is in use in the racing circuit but sometimes it takes a while for cruisers and recreational sailors to pick up the same products.

You are absolutely right. It takes some time from cruisers to adopt tools used by professional racers. However, we do have positive feedback from american cruisers that used DrSails to repair batten pockets in a main sail or repair a tear in an spinnaker.

On top of that, we are aware that more and more boats bring DrSails on board in races such as Transat, Transpac and Baja Haha, among others. In fact, Ullman sails and San Diego Marine exchange held an offshore sail repair seminar recently for the Baja Haha fleet. https://www.facebook.com/DrSails/pho...type=3&theater

@redbopeep, In order to provide feedback from sailors, I sent a sample to Brian Hancock from Great Circle Sails. Check out his review here

Cheers,
Vicenç
