Default 25 yr old US Veteran looking for paid or partially paid position aboard any type

My name is Christopher Love but my friends call me Red on account of my beard. Im an Army Veteran that served in Afghanistan before getting hurt and discharged. I am married and have a young daughter. Times have been hard and I have been unemployed for longer than I care to remember. With any luck I'll find a boat willing to teach me and hire me so I can support them. Not to say I haven't looked elsewhere. But an infantryman has few choices once he gets out and not to many seem keen on hiring me.

I'm a gentle soul with a hard exterior. And what I lack in experience I make up for in dedication and willingness to learn. I am also a really good cook and as long as the pantry is stocked you'll get some of Texas finest meals. I have some diving experience though unqualified and a handyman if needed. If I seem like a good fit to your crew then please contact me either by phone or email. (817) 629 8685 or christopher.love934@gmail.com

Hi Chris. I sincerely doubt that you will find a paid position on a recreational sailing boat. Usually, the 'hired' crew are required to support themselves offshore, through the purchase of food, drinks, general supplies, safety gear and so on.

To pick up a paid position, you will generally require either extensive experience and probably certificates. However, getting qualifications can be very worthwhile. The USCG has internationally recognised qualifications, and I think there are training organisations who will teach you in Florida.

Jagging a gig on a private yacht or cruise liner can be very rewarding, but as with most careers, enthusiasm is not a substitute for bits of paper.

Meanwhile, I hope your injuries are not permanent and that you will have the opportunity to sail away. In the interim, I suggest you get down to the local yacht club and look for crewing positions. It's easy to get a crew slot, but don't expect pay.

Best wishes.
