Anyone Sailing With Kids - Aged 3 Or 4?

We are looking to do a year sailing adventure with our kids, who will be 3 at the time, before they start primary school. Has anyone taken kids so young on an extended trip before?

We used to sail as a family when my daughter was 3. It was lots of fun.

Now, she over 30 and a tremendous sailor.

Arrrr Boy - Stuart - moved aboard with us when he was 46 hours old and has been a full-time liveaboard sailor ever since. He was born in St Thomas and we sailed all over the Virgin Islands until we departed 19 months ago. We celebrated his 5th birthday in Trinidad and his 6th on the beautiful island of Moorea. Some families don't bother... but we've had lifeline netting around the dech ever since he was a toddler. It's always a treat when we hook-up with boats that have kids around Stuart's age because when the kids are having fun - parents are having fun. When we departed St Thomas we had four years' curiculum of Calvert School stowed under the VeeBerth. Don't let school get in the way of a good education!

Linda sewed a really cute bunk 'bumper' with a silly snake face that kept our kids laughing and fewer bumps on the teak ceiling when heeled. We put netting around the bunk with a brumel hook so it was one handed to get them in or out. In rough weather, if we needed a bit of time to reef or change jibs or drive a tricky channel, a handful of cherrio's tossed into the bunk thru the netting would keep them busy for a half hour or so...leave them with some books, and they will make your life miserable trying to keep up with getting them enough new ones...'when is England going to tie up to us again?' their world view will be changed forever.
