SSB Installation

Hi All,

I just purchased a used SSB system and will be installing it in the near future. Do you have a tips or experiences that would be helpful to know before i get started?

Thanks for your help.

Unless you have knowledge of radio, ariel and tuner installation, I would suggest contacting a specialist. It won't cost a heap and the peace of mind of knowing you have a good installation will be well worthwhile. Just the wrong gauge of wire, coax, copper strap etc can make a difference to the quality of performance, including distance of your transmission and reception. With reliance on SSB for email and weather, not to mention the safety aspect of having a reliable service in case of emergency, I would defer to the expert installer equipped with all the necessary test gear. Hope to see you out there one day. David.

Further to Auzzee's comment, there are also some safety concerns. Voltages and Frequencies produced by an HF radio can be dangerous if the installation is incorrect.

Any Ham Radio operator will be able to help you for FREE. This is what we do. Play with, and istall our own HF SSB and VHF radios . and we have lots and lots of experience in this field. We spend endless hours doing this, to the annoyance of our spouses. https://www.cruiserlog.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

You will find good info on the boards at www.ssca.org

Look under "Communications"

Good luck! And hear you soon on the non-Ham marine SSB frequencies.

For the Ham frequencies, you need a Ham (Amateur Radio) license.
