RF Ground (Counterpoise)

Any ideas on how to run the copper foil around or through bulkheads. I would like to glass-in copper foil under each one of my watertanks, but I am not sure how to get the copper strap through the bulkhead.

Is it a bad thing to cut the foil and bypass it with something of a smaller surface area. Like a 1/4" copper pipe? Then wrap the foil around copper pipe on each side of the bulkhead.

You could do that, however a single continuous electrical path is preferable. (Low resistance is paramount).

Do not drill holes through ribs, to feed wires through, as I have seen on numerous boats. [:X] I can just visualize a structural failure there in high seas!!

By Ribs do you mean bulkheads or stringers?

Stringers. Saw 2 inch holes in 4 inch stringers. Yikes!!

Before you start cutting holes in the bulkheads, you may want to read through this controversial subject of ground planes at:

FWIW, I have been using HF radio for over 25 years on my 'plastic' boat on both ham and marine bands using a single 'Dynaplate', 18 inches long. I have no complaints about my signal. Also, I rarely transmit at a power level above 50 or 60 watts for both voice and digital traffic.
