Taking the plunge

Well, I am not so much taking the plunge as turning on the bath taps at the moment. But I have sold my business, I am now largely unemployed and I am going to work on the boat throughout the wet season in Darwin, so that I can disappear over the horizon as soon as the south easterly trades begin blowing next year. The rig is ready, I have just had the GM diesel totally reconditioned, a new exhaust has been built and fitted, I have bought a new inflatable and Honda EU20i generator, have bought also a 10.5" chartplotter and am contemplating a foreward looking sonar. (See sailing topics in a different area of the forum). I still have to have the refrigeration checked (engine driven eutectic plates), bleed the hydraulic steering, buy new sails (just a new main and jib) haul the boat out of the water to check through hull fittings, bearings, anodes and anti-foul...and recover the seat pads on the saloon lounges....and I have to become used to riding the new folding bicycle. Then there is the house, cars etc to consider. But there is light at the end of the tunnel and I relish the thought of promoting myself from occasional cruiser up through the ranks to become a true voyaging cruiser.

The horizon awaits you. Best of luck with your preparations - may all go well.

Good luck Auzzee - lets hope we can share a beer some time some place.
