Bottom Paint Compatability?

Hi Everyone,

We, too, were swept away by the flooding in Australia. A boat dragged onto us and yanked my anchor from it's grip and I ended up fouled on another. Ugly situation but we're okay. Been through lots worse.

I've just hauled out for repairs and overdue bottom paint while we're at it and the boatyard cannot determine if TRANS OCEAN is compatable with JOTUN anti fouling paint. Both are of the ablative type but the boatyard is pretty much insisting I go the added time & expense of using a barrier coat.

Does anyone here know if a barrier coat is needed or WHERE I might go to find a definitive answer?

Time is Money (especially when hauled out in Australia) so a speedy reply would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

To Life!

Kirk

G'day Kirk, Jotun, which I last bought in Malaysia some years ago was banned in Oz due to it containing tributyl tin. If your Jotun was applied in Oz, it will probably be CUO based and if the biocide is the same as Transocean, I would take the chance on the medium also being the same and I would not worry with a barrier coat.
Either way, Transocean will not honour any guarantee unless it overcoats either itself, or an approved barrier coat. I wish I could be of more help. If there is a compatibility issue it could be a costly exercise.
Cheers
David.

Don't know about compatibility but Jotun is still available in Australia.I used Jotun Sea Victor 50 on my boat a year ago and a mate anti fouled a few months ago using the same product. Don't know what its chemical make up is but works pretty darn good.
