doesn't surprise me that you aren't getting many answers. If you understood navigation and plotting you would know the source for the charts and what charts you would need. most people don't want to buy charts for places they will never go, and only you know where you plan to cruise.

to repeat somebody else on another topic, Is this a test?

Huh?

This is a great place for someone to ask questions/opinions for sources.

Moving on to the question of where to buy charts, etc... Here in San Diego, CA there is a great book and chart store that also has an online presence. The owner, Ann, is very knowledgeable and helpful to cruisers who buy charts and navigation software from their store. I've watched her help cruisers get their software loaded on their laptops right in the store. Great resource, IMHO. You can get the contact info at the store link here

although we have a collection of old charts for back-up. in much of mexico, belize and honduras we used cruising guides: Rauscher's Guide to Mexico and Belize, and Calder's guide to the NW Caribbean. With these, you can get into most any anchorage and they have lots of other good info too. If you get down to Panama (recommended), then you will want to buy the Zydler guide.

Hello,

Seabreeze Books in San Diego is very good and has a pretty complete selection of Mexico charts. There is a bound collection of charts covering all of Pacific Mexico. The Nobletec Passport charts are very good for Mexico and Central America but in addition get "Charlie's Charts" for Mexico and John and Patricia Rain's book "Cruising Ports California to Florida, via Panama Canal."

Please use caution with GPS plotters in Mexico and most of central America as the GPS location will not transfer to local charts.

Chart plotters will put on the beach, use your radar to bearing compass on approach to harbors or near the coastline. The offset may be several yards to 1/2 nautical mile or more. Panama is not a problem as there have been many up to date surveys completed.

Good luck and enjoy.

Dave
