Hello! I was wondering if anyone has advice or information on the easiest way to send a box of equipment (electronics and/or rigging gear) to Greece or Turkey from the US. I hear shipping stuff into Turkey can be a nightmare with Customs and importation fees. Anyone with experience sending stuff to a 'Yacht in Transit' to either of these areas?

Thanks

Mike K.

Hi Mike,

I have never done this myself, but the management of Kemer Marina in Turkey says that items can be sent into Turkey tax free: <a href="http://"http://www.kemerturkizmarina.com"" target="_blank">www.kemerturkizmarina.com

My advice is to do whatever you are planning to do via Greece not Turkey.

Turkish customs are likely to seize anything of over 100 ??? in value and you have to go to Istanbul to pay the (high) import duty and get it released. Why ???? - Because they seem to operate on the number, not the currency, so over 100 UK pounds and also over 100 Turkish lira, for example.

The best way is to pay excess baggage and travel with your kit.

We have imported loads of stuff this way into both Greece and Turkey and never paid a cent in duty.

Importing stuff via agents is typically costly. Even in Spain we payed 200 dollars to clear a battery charger, imported from the USA, which cost only 400 dollars.

Kind regards
