Just wondering. I heard that if you are a licensed captain on someone else's boat and outrank the skipper and something goes wrong then you are responsible. Is this true?

Hi SGW, No this is not true. The skipper is the skipper and everyone else on board is not. It is assumed that the skipper is competent to run the boat and unless exceptional circumstances can be proven, the skipper is the only person who can delegate his/her responsibility to a visiting 'Admiral'.

Best wishes,

Aquaman - glad that ASA flowchart was helpful. Sorry I didn't get you there more directly. Appreciated your point how it addressed some of the other topics. This page doesn't define "Consideraton" but then in another post I did quote how the coast guard defines consideration and I provided the link for anyone who doesn't want to trust me.
