Default Sail 2 Indonesia Rally

For the beginning of our proposed circumnavigation our family is joining the Sail 2 Indonesia rally departing from TI on or about 18/7/18. We have 4 boys aboard twins 15,12 and 11. We will be home schooling. Any other families or anyone else joining this rally is welcome to contact me. We are departing the Gold Coast in the next few weeks after cyclone season finishes.

How does home schooling work for you on a trip like this, Stevel? Or will this be your first experience doing it?

The trip north inside the Barrier Reef is one of the truly great sailing trips of the world. TI is a good, though from a provisioning point of view, expensive experience...and a terrible anchorage. There is a good, muddy bottom off Horn Island, which is a short dinghy or ferryboat ride to Engineer's Wharf on TI. Provision either in Cairns or in Darwin, which is a yacht friendly port with every imaginable service available. Darwin also has good, free anchorages (But anchor out to cope with tidal heights of around 18-20 feet.
The various rallies and races north in the middle of the year are all well worthwhile. I envy you and hope you have a wonderful, safe time.

No this will be our first time and the prospect of home schooling is quite daunting. Guess we will have to get into a routine.

Thanks Auzze for the encouragement. The only reservation I have are the crocs. We are used to sharks but the crocs want to eat you and are smart and patient. Won’t be swimming unless well offshore like Lizzard Islalnd. Had already worked out to fully provision in Cairns and just stock up on Thursday Is. Figure sailing in Indonesia will be quite cheap especially for a family our size. BTW leaving 3 older kids at home.

Best of luck with the trip! I bet the boys are going to love the experience, too.
